Great article, thanks for the files and the screenshots! If run from Window 7 then you have to run CMD as an administrator for it to work.

In step 2 for transfer of BootSect.exe to the formatted USB in my E drive, I am unable from the command prompt to achieve it- I get an error message "Could not map drive petitions to the associated volume objects: Access is denied." I then tried running CMD as administrator to obtain the right privileges but it puts me in C:windows\system32 so I am unable to access BootSect.exe from there to map into the USB. Please help. For some reason your method to place System Recovery on a USB memory stick doesn't work on my Windows Vista netbook when I follow your video and even apply the correct parameters for my USB in the E drive. I get stuck at this step. I appreciate your advice. Thank you in advance.

Hope this is not a double post. Followed instructions and loaded the recovery console on USB. When I try to boot my ASUS 900 EEE (XP home, 32bit) I get a menu abt which drive I wish to boot Windows from. When I select C-drive (I guess the USB) I am asked for an administrator's password. After 3 attempts it goes back to reboot.

      Anyone encounter this? Any suggestions/recommendations?

      Hi

I boot from the flash drive after walking trough the steps above and get jammed after the lines:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
      PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
After that screen displays "j" and a cursor blinking after it.

      I'm lost :D
      What does it mean?

Some tricks that made it work for me:

      1. Format in FAT not FAT32
Steps 2 and 3 are reversed:
      2. Copy the files
      3. Run bootsect.exe

Then do edit as directed (save USBLDR in root directory of your USB drive)
